We answer your questions about our slotted channels

A slotted channel is an industrial drainage solution for efficiently collecting water from large surfaces at a minimal cost. It consists of a slotted channel made of AISI304/316L stainless steel with a 20mm opening slot and a widened interior forming an omega-type channel that covers long lengths.

They are installed in the floor, leaving a slot along the room that needs draining, so that cleaning water does not have to travel long distances to find the slot, limiting the time the liquid remains on the floor. This system avoids floor installations with complicated slopes that can lead to puddles on the surface. Once inside the slotted channel, its design with an internal slope accelerates the water flow towards the drainage point or collector.

INZA SR slotted channels form a modular system with straight sections, elbows, corners, siphonic outlets, etc., all with watertight connections, internal slopes, and a design focused on achieving good maintenance, preventing contamination, and providing a solution with high mechanical resistance and great durability.

Slotted channels are widely used in industrial facilities, wineries, oil mills, meat processing plants, bottling plants, laboratories, hospitals, and any space where hygiene, durability, and efficiency in drainage are required.

Inza has standard sections in stock for immediate supply, and we also design and manufacture a complete custom system for your project.

The main function of slotted channels is to facilitate water evacuation, whether for cleaning, rain, or industrial processes. They act as a linear drain and are very suitable for production rooms where industrial traffic may occur, as the contact surface between the slotted channel and vehicle wheels is minimal.

Furthermore, the slotted channel simplifies floor slopes and keeps rooms dry and free of contamination. Specifically, it is used to:

  • Prevent water accumulation that could create slip hazards or structural deterioration
  • Ensure hygienic conditions in areas where water control is essential
  • Comply with sanitary regulations in facilities where food or chemical products are handled
  • Collect and convey stormwater on industrial, commercial, and urban surfaces economically and efficiently, combining an aesthetic and functionally highly valued solution due to its simplicity, which prevents problems of bad odors from the subsequent sanitation or stormwater network, and which is perfect for installation on slabs or waterproofed areas, as it avoids the risks of leaks.

Although often used interchangeably, slotted channels and channels have important differences in both functional and aesthetic terms.

The slotted channel, due to its simpler and more compact design, is intended to be discreetly integrated into the pavement without moving parts or removable components, with a minimalist appearance that barely interferes with the visible surface. This type of solution is especially suitable for draining rooms cleaned by hosing down or pressure washing. They are also valued in environments where design and visual cleanliness are as important as drainage efficiency.

On the other hand, channels usually have a more robust and visible structure. Wider channels provide a very large water collection surface, being especially useful when there are discharges with high flow rates. These channels are closed by metal grates that allow traffic to pass over them.

Either solution is perfect for high-traffic areas or where machinery, vehicles, or heavy loads need to be supported. Only the most suitable grate needs to be selected.

Slotted channels have the advantage of having no moving parts and high resistance due to the small contact surface with vehicles.

Channels with grates, being accessible, allow access to the bottom of the channel at any point of the installation, ensuring perfect maintenance, which is very important for collecting liquids with viscous substances or those that can adhere to the channel walls.

At Inza, we offer both options with the highest quality standards, adapting to the specific requirements of each project.

In Inza’s case, all our slotted channels are manufactured from stainless steel precisely because we understand the real demands of our customers. Stainless steel not only guarantees a long service life but also complies with sanitary and environmental regulations, resists oxidation even in conditions of high humidity or exposure to chemical agents, and is easy to clean, which is key in industries such as food or pharmaceutical.

The term ‘slotted channel’ is not exclusively linked to a single material, and we also offer other models of hidden channels or slotted solutions that can be made of galvanized steel, PVC, polymer concrete, and other compounds. However, each material has different applications and limitations. Generally, they are useful in civil engineering installations for stormwater collection in low-traffic areas; they may have more limitations regarding their resistance to traffic, corrosion, or aggressive chemicals.

Technical characteristics of the Inza SR slotted channel

Watertight modular system

The slotted channel lines are a modular system of different sections with various shapes and lengths, joined together by means of a system of stainless steel plates and screws with EPDM (synthetic rubber) gaskets.

Slotted channel lines with built-in slope

There are straight sections up to 3 m long with a built-in slope of 0.66% to 2%, depending on the needs and lengths of the line. Sometimes it will be necessary to use additional elements, such as sections without slope, 90º corner pieces, inspection chambers, floor drains, or direct outlets that are also part of the modular system. Lines with a built-in slope can reach a length of up to 24 m between drains.

V-shaped channel bottom

The different channel sections that form a linear drain allow cleaning or process water to be evacuated from a room at high speed.

Omega-type slotted channels are self-cleaning thanks to their V-shaped bottom. Due to the narrowing that occurs at the bottom of the channel, the water flow velocity increases. This is very effective for carrying solids and, combined with the system’s inherent slope, means that the channels require almost no maintenance.

Wing reinforcement and steel anchors

All channel sections have steel anchors for a good connection to the concrete during installation. Additionally, the lateral wing of the channel can be reinforced with an NBR (rubber) profile or a square stainless steel profile, which prevents deformations in the wing area. There is also the possibility of equipping the channel with threaded leveling feet to facilitate installation.

Outlet type

At the lowest point of the stainless steel slotted channel lines, an outlet or drain is located for evacuation to the sewage pipes. This drain can be a direct outlet welded to the bottom of the channel or a siphonic stainless steel floor drain. These floor drains can have different grate sizes and different types of vertical or horizontal outlets, but they always include removable siphons and solid collection baskets.

How stainless steel slotted channels work

Inza’s stainless steel slotted channels operate through a system of surface water collection and conveyance, using a slotted or perforated design that allows liquid to pass into the channel. From there, the water is directed to evacuation or treatment systems.

Furthermore, the internal slope and optimized geometry of each slotted channel ensure constant flow, preventing stagnation or backflow.

Advantages of Inza slotted channels

The slotted channel or trench drain is a simple and highly functional drainage solution. At Inza, we offer stainless steel slotted channels that stand out for:

  • Modular solution adaptable to any project
  • Drainage solution that prevents leaks thanks to its watertight connections
  • High hydraulic capacity, both for collection and evacuation, thanks to its built-in slope and V-shaped bottom.
  • High mechanical resistance allowing industrial traffic thanks to its robust design and small contact surface with vehicles.
  • Great ease of installation due to its simple assembly system and the accessories that facilitate it.
  • Simplifies the use of floor slopes, creating more comfortable surfaces for carts and wheeled vehicles to pass over.
  • The use of slotted channels instead of point drains allows water to travel shorter distances across the facility floor before entering the channel, resulting in floors that remain dry longer and reducing humidity problems.
  • Made of stainless steel, meeting sanitary requirements for maintenance, cleaning, and durability.
  • No moving parts that could complicate the system’s lifespan.
  • Perfect integration into industrial or decorative pavements
  • Elegant and aesthetic design

Our line of stainless steel slotted channels combines advanced engineering with a professional presentation, ideal for demanding sectors.
