We answer your questions about our stainless steel channels

At Inza, we manufacture our drainage systems exclusively with the highest-quality austenitic stainless steels to ensure the structural and sanitary integrity of your facilities. The standards we use are:

  • Stainless steel AISI 304 (EN1.4301): This is the standard alloy for most industrial and agri-food applications. Thanks to its low surface roughness, it offers virtually zero adhesion, preventing sediment build-up and minimizing bacterial growth. It is the balanced option for environments with conventional hygiene requirements.
  • Stainless steel AISI 316L (EN 1.4404): Thanks to its molybdenum content, this grade provides superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. It is the mandatory choice for highly aggressive environments, such as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, fish processing plants, or coastal areas, where chlorides, acids, and salts are constantly present, also ensuring the material remains unaffected by intensive cleaning chemicals.

Stainless steel stands out for its high corrosion resistance, durability, ease of cleaning, and ability to withstand heavy loads. These properties make it ideal for installations that require high hygiene standards and mechanical strength. It is not just an aesthetic choice; it is a technical necessity for compliance with regulations such as HACCP, EN1672, and EN ISO 14159. Inza solutions provide key competitive advantages:

  • Hygiene and Food Safety: Its smooth, non-porous surface (low roughness) prevents dirt adhesion and bacterial biofilm formation, making sterile cleaning easier. It prevents colonization by pathogens such as listeria, eliminating sources of food contamination.
  • Thermal and Mechanical Resistance: Due to its low expansion coefficient, our channels withstand machinery vibrations, impacts, and thermal shocks at temperatures above 800°C, allowing aggressive cleaning with very hot water without deformation. It withstands heavy industrial traffic loads (forklifts) without deforming or breaking, thanks to its excellent ductility.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Its passive chromium oxide layer protects it from aggressive chemical agents, eliminating the need for additional coatings that could peel off.
  • Sustainability: It is a 100% recyclable, non-toxic material, aligned with sustainable construction and environmental protection standards.
  • Workplace Safety: We design products without sharp edges or cutting corners, prioritizing operator safety during maintenance tasks.

Manufacturing a drainage channel involves cutting, bending, and welding. These mechanical and thermal processes alter the stainless steel surface, compromising its natural resistance. A key quality differentiator for INZA components is comprehensive post-manufacturing surface treatment. A “shiny” channel is not necessarily a “protected” channel. These two treatment stages must be applied after manufacturing.

  • Pickling: Contaminant Removal

During welding, thermal oxides (heat tint) form on the surface, beneath which there is a chromium-depleted layer. If they are not removed, these areas become preferred points for corrosion initiation. The chemical pickling process, by applying gels or baths of hydrofluoric and nitric acid, dissolves this oxide layer and the underlying chromium-depleted layer.

In addition, pickling removes exogenous ferrous contamination. During workshop handling, iron particles from cutting tools or workbenches can become embedded in the stainless steel. In humid environments, these iron particles oxidize quickly, creating unsightly rust stains that can initiate contact corrosion. Pickling ensures a chemically clean surface free of foreign ferrite.

  • Passivation: Restoring the Protective Layer

Although the passive layer forms naturally, the process can be slow and uneven. Chemical passivation, generally with nitric acid, forces controlled oxidation of the iron-free surface. This treatment accelerates the formation of a uniform, dense, and chemically stable chromium oxide layer. For INZA customers, this means the product is delivered with its maximum corrosion resistance activated from day one, with no initial vulnerability period.

The hydraulic capacity of our channels is not standard; it is calculated and optimized for each project. INZA systems can handle everything from small cleaning discharges to large-volume water releases in industrial processes or tank emptying, always ensuring efficient drainage.

To achieve this, we design the channel profile with an integrated slope (generally between 0.5% and 2%) or in a stepped configuration. This ensures a constant flow velocity even at low flow rates, creating a self-cleaning effect that carries solids to the drain and prevents wastewater stagnation, the main source of bad odors and cross-contamination. The dimensions (width and depth) are custom-configured to meet the design flow rate (l/s) required by EN 1253.

Investing in Inza channels means securing long-term infrastructure. Thanks to the robustness of stainless steel and its resistance to deformation from overloads or impacts, with proper maintenance our systems offer a service life of over 30 years.

Unlike other materials that degrade with chemical cleaning cycles or forklift traffic, our channels keep their structural and aesthetic properties intact, often outlasting the service life of the flooring or the industrial building itself. It is a definitive solution that eliminates replacement and civil works costs in the medium term.

The design of Inza channels follows hygienic design principles to enable fast maintenance without complex tools. The rounded-body geometry and absence of dead corners ensure cleaning is effective and quick. The maintenance protocol is simplified into three steps:

  1. Direct Access: Easy removal of gratings for visual inspection of possible blockages.
  2. Waste Management: All our outlet systems and drains include solid collection baskets and removable traps. This makes it possible to remove accumulated waste (such as glass, plastics, or organic matter) before it enters the sewer network, preventing costly blockages and bad odors.
  3. Periodic Cleaning: Regular hosing down with hot pressurized water and neutral or alkaline detergents is recommended. Thanks to the rounded edges and the absence of sharp corners at the bottom of the channel, dirt does not build up, allowing effective cleaning without excessive mechanical effort.

At INZA, we offer three main types of stainless steel gratings designed to adapt to different load and environment requirements:

  • Mesh grating: manufactured with an electrowelded flat-bar mesh in different thicknesses, it is ideal for industrial areas where high water intake capacity is required. Available in load classes L15 and M125, with an optional anti-slip finish for greater safety in wet areas.
  • Bar grating: widely used in industrial applications thanks to its good drainage capacity and resistance to vehicular traffic. It adapts to different configurations depending on width and load class, maintaining a balance between robustness and efficiency. Also available in L15 and M125 classes.
  • Slotted grating: composed of a top flat bar and transverse crossbars, it leaves a side opening that enables efficient water collection. Its structure withstands heavy loads, making it ideal for high-traffic areas and industrial environments where impact resistance is a priority. Available in load classes L15 and M125. It is also used where a more refined aesthetic is required and extra protection against the entry of large debris is needed. In its “hidden slot” version, drainage is almost invisible, ideal for high-end architectural areas or separating dry/wet zones.

In particularly aggressive environments, it is recommended to choose gratings made of AISI 316 stainless steel, which offers greater corrosion resistance.

Stainless steel channels with grating can drain water in two main ways, both designed to provide efficiency and ease of maintenance:

  • Industrial floor drains: a modular solution that integrates perfectly with INZA channels. They include a top riser to facilitate connection to the channel and ensure smooth water evacuation. They are designed for optimal performance in industrial installations.
  • Direct outlets: these outlets are welded directly to the bottom of the channel and can be vertical or horizontal, depending on project requirements. They incorporate a removable hydraulic trap and solid collection baskets, making cleaning and maintenance tasks easier.

HOW INZA STAINLESS STEEL CHANNELS WORK

Inza drainage systems are based on principles of gravity flow, structural strength, and adaptability to the environment. Each channel is adapted to the liquid volume, load type (pedestrian, vehicular, industrial), and the customer’s specific needs.
